#GivingTuesday is the day of the year when we should all give back. Giving Tuesday Org.

In an era where every day of the year we celebrate something, it’s only fitting that we have a day in which we give back. Of course, in a perfect world we’d be giving back year round to the charity of our choice or within our communities, but until that’s the case, the website explains this holiday as follows: “We have a day for giving thanks. We have two for getting deals. Now, we have #GivingTuesday, a global day dedicated to giving back. On Tuesday, December 1, 2015, charities, families, businesses, community centers, and students around the world will come together for one common purpose: to celebrate generosity and to give.”

Needless to say, activists like Bill and Melinda Gates fully support the institutionalization of this day, for which they released the following statement: “You may have heard of Black Friday and Cyber Monday. There's another day you might want to know about: Giving Tuesday. The idea is pretty straightforward. On the Tuesday after Thanksgiving, shoppers take a break from their gift-buying and donate what they can to charity.”

The ‘Giving Tuesday’ website guides all of its users on where and how to give on this special day, whether you’re in the US or the rest of the world. The idea is, if you’re not giving through any of these organizations, or have a different idea on how to give back in your community, you can share it in any of your social media platforms with the hashtag #GivingTuesday so this day turns into a global movement adding even more meaning to the holiday season. Also, tweet at @GivingTues and tell them about the charity you contributed to.

“It’s a simple idea. Just find a way for your family, your community, your company or your organization to come together to give something more. Then tell everyone you can about how you are giving. Join us and be a part of a global celebration of a new tradition of generosity.” - Giving Tuesday. Remember, there is no charitable act too small or too big, anything helps.
