Young Cubans, Venezuelans and other Latin American countries today held a march in the Cuban capital of Havana to mark the 60th anniversary of the birth of the late Commander Hugo Chávez, leader of the Bolivarian Revolution. The journey began in the central Avenue of the Presidents with a wreath at the statue of Venezuelan hero Simon Bolivar, and in tribute to Chavez, great follower of the ideas of the Liberator. Cuba also remembered the 61st anniversary of the July 26, 1953 rebel assault in which former Cuban leader Fidel Castro led on the Moncada army barracks.

During the memorial ceremony to Chavez, the president of the Marti Youth Movementm, Yusuam Palacios, said that Chavez is remembered for his anti-imperialist, ethical and humanistic legacy, as well as his relationship with Cuba and the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, and the influence of Latin American heroes like Bolívar and José Martí. "Fidel Castro, Chavez, Marti and Bolivar unite the ideal of Latin American independence, unity and the integration of our peoples," said the youth leader.

The march ended at the University of Havana (UH), where a plaque commemorates Chavez on a single house of higher learning, on his first visit to Cuba in 1994, fresh out of prison, and especially that lecture in the Great Hall, in the presence of Fidel Castro. At the Parque Hugo Chavez of UH, university authorities, the Union of Young Communists of Cuba and the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP) honored the Bolivarian leader with a wreath.
