What is the most annoying thing about your iPhone? The battery life, right? Well Apple has increased the battery capacity for iPhone 5S but is it enough? At Apple's Sept. 10 media event, CEO Tim Cook revealed that the new iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C will have an increased battery capacity. New Apple tech specs revealed that users can expect longer batter life on both the iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C for certain tasks.

According to Mac Rumors, both new iPhones will offer users up to 10 hours of talk time on 3G and the same 10 hours of LTE Internet use, up from 8 hours for both tasks on the iPhone 5. Apple listed the standby time of the two new smartphones has increased up to 250 hours from iPhone 5's 225 hours. Standby time is the officially quoted longest time that a single battery charge will last when the phone is constantly connected to the network but is not in active use. So while 250 hours of battery capacity does seem impressive, this spec can be a bit deceiving.

Apple has not yet revealed the exact battery capacity for its iPhones; however, AnandTech exposed the FCC documents and released the battery sizes and capacities. The iPhone 5c carries 5% higher battery capacity than the iPhone 5, while the iPhone 5s carries a 10% larger battery. Mac Rumors also confirmed that the numbers reported by the FCC documents are very close to what we saw when the iPhone 5S December 2012 prototype was leaked. The battery in that device was listed as 5.92 Whr, while the FCC documents report a capacity of 5.96 Whr. As for the iPhone 5C, the FFC reports a capacity of 5.73 Whr for the battery, which matches the photos posted by C technology.

While the increase in battery capacity is certainly the step in the right direction, I doubt a 10% increase will be substantial. Especially considering the addition of iPhone 5S's Touch ID fingerprint scanner. That is additional constant running program that initiates, each and every time you lock and unlock your phone. An increased battery life is necessary and while Apple is attempting to meet consumer's needs I don't think 2 hours helps all too much.
