For months now a Smart Connector has been one of the rumored features coming to the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus devices. However, a new report from Japanese website Mac Otakara suggest that Apple has decided against the Smart Connector for the coming devices.

The website suggest Apple decided against adding the Smart Connector to the iPhone 7 after considering it as an included feature. No real reason was given as to why the company decided against the feature, but considering the news was initially a rumor could indicate that the Smart Connector was never coming to the iPhone 7 or 7 Plus.

The company first introduced the Smart Connector in its iPad Pro. The connector is a new type of port designed to transfer data and power between the tablet and accessories such as the Smart Keyboard. It was never really clear what purpose the Smart Connector would provide to the iPhone 7, but many have speculated that the company would bring about a battery case for wireless charging.

The Smart Connector was first rumored to arrive on the iPhone 7 back in March when an image surfaced on Chinese website Bastille Post. Although the image looked legitimate, it was never confirmed if it was a real iPhone 7 device or a counterfeit. The rumors of the new smartphone getting the Smart Connector continued when drawings by Mac Fan appeared online showing the connector. Check out both images on MacRumors.

Reports regarding the iPhone 7 have been rather confusing lately as many have a lot of conflicting information about the devices features and design. Rumors have disagreed on features like waterproof, the removal of the headphone jack, the thickness of the device, stereo speakers, the rear cameras protrusion and much more.

While it seems as though we have no real information on the iPhone 7, it is likely we'll begin to see a much more clear picture of the device in the coming months. Hopefully the company will give us a look at the device at WWDC 2016 this June.
