Are Jada Pinkett Smith and Will Smith divorcing? Rumor mills have been churning out the story that the celebrity couple will be separating after years of marriage. But the celebrity couple is not unfamiliar to divorce rumors, as every year, without fail, a new rumor about the couple having problems and being on the verge of a split. "Every year, one celebrity couple is under the microscope. This year, unluckily, it's us! These rumors are completely untrue," said Jada Pinkett Smith to Gala magazine in response to her marriage's alleged breakup last year. Here are four things to know about their rumored split:
1. Recently, rumors have emerged that the couple is splitting after Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith have placed their $42 million "dream home" on the market, according to Real Estalker. The home was a seven-year project that the couple is selling after just two years. In terms of real estate, the couple has reportedly sold their vacation home in Hawaii as well. But the rep for the Smiths' has denied the story that they have put their home on the market. "This is false. Their home is not on the market," publicist Karynne Tencer told the Daily News Monday.
2. Jada Pinkett Smith and Will Smith are rumored to be in an open relationship. "I've always told Will, 'You can do whatever you want as long as you can look at yourself in the mirror and be okay,'" said the 41-year-old actress to HuffPost Live's Marc Lamont Hill. "Because at the end of the day, Will is his own man. I'm here as his partner, but he is his own man. He has to decide who he wants to be and that's not for me to do for him. Or vice versa." And it's not just Will Smith who has full freedom to do whatever. Jada Pinkett Smith went on record to state they both do whatever they want. 3. Jada Pinkett Smith took to her Facebook page to deny their alleged open relationship. "Here is how I will change my statement," Jada wrote on her Facebook page, "Will and I BOTH can do WHATEVER we want, because we TRUST each other to do so. This does not mean we have an open relationship.. this means we have a GROWN one." Will Smith explained their relationship in an interview with Now Magazine: "Our perspective is, you don't avoid what's natural and you're going to be attracted to people," said Will. "If it came down to it, then one would say to the other: 'Look, I need to have sex with somebody. Now I'm not going to do it if you don't approve of it.'"
4. Despite the rumors, Jada Pinkett Smith's interviews tell a different story. "I have been affected by gossip and I know people who have been, too. I've seen marriages destroyed by gossip. It is cruel," Jada Pinkett Smith, 41, says. "At the end of the day, all that matters is: Do you love what you see when you look in the mirror? That is it, baby." The actress revealed in an interview with Redbook that she would only leave Will Smith if he hurt their children. "What is the thing that Will could do to make me not love him? That would make me abandon him? I can't think of one. I'm sorry," the actress says. "Except if he did something bad to the kids -- now we've got a problem."
