When Javier “Chicharito” Hernandez left Manchester United for Real Madrid this summer he hoped that it would reinvigorate his career. After years spent on the bench at Old Trafford, playing for the best team in the world behind only Karim Benzema should have led to more playing time and more opportunities to score goals. Halfway through the La Liga season Chicharito finds himself in a familiar position: on the bench.

Chicharito has just three goals in seven games and over 150 minutes of playing time. He’s sliding further and further down the depth chart with the return of Jesse Rodriguez and manager Carlo Ancelotti isn’t even playing Hernandez in the easy games that Los Blancos should win handily.

Manchester United sent Chicharito to Real Madrid on a one-year loan. So we know that he will remain in the Spanish capital at least until next summer. It would seem right now that Madrid will not want to take him on permanently after that nor has Chicharito himself hinted that was a possibility.

“Wherever I am playing next season, I will make sure I have those sort of assurances,” he told the Daily Mail. “I am not sure what will happen in the summer yet, but whatever happens I need guarantees. I am 26 now – in the summer I will be 27 – I must be at a club where I am going to be playing regularly.”

Chicharito’s contract with Manchester United expires at the end of the 2015-2016 season. More than likely he will return to Old Trafford next July or they will loan him out for another year at which point Hernadez would become a free agent free to sign with any team during the summer of 2016.

According to reports, Arsenal, Everton, Liverpool and Tottenham are targeting Chicharito for a return to the English Premier League in 2016. Look for these teams to be at the top of the list for a permanent transfer either in the January or July transfer window, or on a one-year loan with the option to become permanent similar to Radamel Falcao’s current deal with Manchester United.
