Jennifer Lopez said it is “surreal” that 20 years had passed since the queen of Tex-Mex, Selena Quintanilla, was murdered, and even more so because it also means it’s been around 18 years since she made that movie. But when Lopez was interviewed by Billboard about Selena’s death anniversary, she explained why she doesn't get it when people think there will be a “next Selena.” The “Booty” star says it’s like thinking there are other actors like James Dean or Marilyn Monroe.

Selena is still one of the most remembered and beloved Latino icons, whose legacy wasn’t only her music but “the grace with which she handled business; the grace with which she handled her life. Her spirit of loving what she did. Her sense of family,” are only some of the reasons JLo enlisted about why people still love Selena. “That’s the tragedy of it all and that’s why she left such a huge mark,” said Lopez.

On top of the 1997 biopic “Selena” giving Lopez her breakthrough role, she recalls having learned so much more and having been inspired to “follow her dreams” and not let anyone categorize her doing only one thing. “You can do lots of things! Life is too short, and you don’t know what’s going to happen. Chase your dreams and don’t let anyone stop you,” said the “American Idol” judge.
