More than two weeks after the Las Vegas massacre, where 58 people were killed and 500 wounded, the security guard who arrived at the shooter Stephen Paddock's hotel room prior to the Las Vegas massacre made an appearance at The Ellen DeGeneres Show to do, for the first time, a recount of what happened that night.

Jesús Campos, of Hispanic origin, said during the episode, to be broadcast this Wednesday, October 18, that he heard "drill sounds" before being shot with a bullet through the door. Campos said he was wounded by Paddock just minutes before the attacker fired at concert attendees at the Route 91 Harvest Festival from the hotel room on the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Resort Casino. "I'm doing better each day, slowly but surely. Just healing mentally and physically," he told DeGeneres.

Campos was patrolling the hotel corridors when he was sent to check a door on the 32nd floor. According to the guard, he had to use the elevator to get there as the stairway door was blocked. "There was metal bracket holding the door in place," he said. After he reported the blocked door he heard drilling sounds. "As I was walking down, I heard rapid fire." Campos said. "And at first I took cover. I felt a burning sensation. I went to go lift my pant leg up and I saw the blood. That's when I called it in on my radio that shots have been fired."

Campos hid in a doorway and alerted his coworker Stephen Schuck, and a woman who came out of another room.

The shooter, 64, of Mesquite, Nevada, opened fire using long range rifles from the 32nd floor of his hotel room at the Mandalay Bay Casino in Las Vegas at a crowd that was enjoying the three-day Route 91 Harvest Festival.

Sheriff Joseph Lombardo informed that the shooter was found dead in his room when a police SWAT team broke down the door. Authorities believe he killed himself. Authorities believed this was a "lone wolf" attack, while the U.S. Homeland Security Department said there was no "specific credible threat" involving other public venues in the U.S.

Considered as the deadliest mass shooting in modern US history, the attacker fired at least 3 different rounds, but it is unknown if the pauses he took were to load the same rifle with more ammunition or to change his weapon. Later, Sheriff Joe Lombardo said officers found 10 rifles in the gunman's room, where he checked in Sept. 28.

When the gunman opened fire, Country music star Jason Aldean was performing. After a few seconds, Aldean and the attendants, realizing that the strange sound wasn’t part of the show, tried to flee to protect themselves without having any idea of what was really happening and that much less clue that someone was shooting across the street from the 32nd floor as an experienced sniper.

ISIS claimed the attack, however, the FBI dismissed the claims. Special Agent in Charge Aaron Rouse said at a news conference that the shooter had no connection to an international terrorist group.
