President Donald Trump has pledged to deport migrants who have committed illegal acts; does it mean Joaquin "El Chapo" Gúzman is eligible for deportation? Apparently his lawyer thinks so.

Jose Luis Gonzalez Meza, who has worked on behalf of Gúzman, held up a banner outside the Mexican Attorney General's Office that read: "Mr. Trump, Deport the illegal and criminal Chapo Gúzman."

Considering Trump’s order, the lawyer’s tactic is a smart move to get the drug lord back to Mexico.

According to the Associated Press, Gonzalez Meza said the extradition of Guzmán was a violation. "That means he is in the United States illegally," the lawyer said. "We are going to ask he be returned, because he is illegal and criminal!"

The notorious drug trafficker Joaquín "El Chapo" Guzmán is being held behind bars in New York after he was extradited from Mexico in January. Guzmán, 59, has pleaded not guilty to charges of running a massive drug-trafficking operation that has laundered billions of dollars and oversaw murders and kidnappings.

According to his lawyers, he spends 23 hours a day inside his jail cel, is not allowed to have visits, not even his wife, and can not make phone calls to anyone other than his lawyers. Guzmán has complained several times for the mistreatment, claiming he can't sleep more than two consecutives hours and that even water is being denied.

If convicted, and Trump allows it, he faces the possibility of life in a U.S. prison.
