José Fernández Ex-Girlfriend Carla Mendoza Speaks: 'Maria Arias Is Expecting His Child'

The baseball world and the Latino community suffered a major loss with the sudden death of Miami Marlins star José Fernández. The baseball star, who passed away due to a boating accident Sunday night, was supposedly expecting a child with his fiancée Carla Mendoza. Now, Mendoza has broken her silence and the news is far from what we anticipated.

According to DailyMail, Mendoza broke her silence on Instagram posting a photo of the late baseball star. Within her post, she reveals that a woman by the name of María Arias is expecting Fernández’ child. “My deepest love goes out to those who saw Jose as more than an athlete, but as a passionate, raw human being,” she wrote.

“The heartbreak is unbearable. There was so much more to him than anyone could even begin to understand. I’m fortunate enough to have loved and be loved by Jose, and his family, for over 3 crazy beautiful years. Thank you so much to everyone who's reached out to me, it truly means a lot. Nothing will make this time easy for anyone and if you do one thing today, let it be that you tell those close to you how much you love them. Not one day will pass by that I don't think about him or love him. José never went one moment without knowing how much support and love he had from those close to him. My heart goes out to María, as she is expecting his child. Please honor Jose’s memory by respecting his daughter and her mother as I'm sure this is all too painful for her as well.”

While this news serves as a shock to many, truth be told Fernández and Mendoza broke off their engagement in April. Arias, a former college psychology major, had started seeing Fernández just after his split with Mendoza. Arias reportedly became pregnant weeks into the relationship with the baseball star. She is expected to deliver in February. The site also reports that both girls were at Fernández’s house in Miami after word of his accident surfaced.

Video was also reportedly found, showing Fernández and Arias cutting a cake, revealing their baby’s gender. The late baseball star seemed overjoyed and emotional with the fact that he will soon step into fatherhood of a new baby girl.

According to People, a private mass is scheduled for today with Fernández’s teammates and closest family and friends.
