It’s official.

Keith Thurman and Danny Garcia will be fighting one another on March 4, 2017.

Boxing fans couldn’t ask for much more in this anticipated match. Both men are undefeated. Both men are welterweight champions. Both men are still in the prime of their careers. And on top of all that, both Thurman and Garcia have nearly identical height and reach characteristics.

Thurman has been calling Garcia a “cherry picker” for quite some time now. Thurman, who is an unblemished 27-0 in the ring, is viewed as the most powerful knockout punchers in the welterweight division today. “One Time” wanted a piece of Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao before they retired, but his wished were never granted. Instead, Thurman’s team is ready to be the new face of welterweight boxing for years to come.

On the other hand, Garcia is very athletic so this is already setting up to be an instant classic. Garcia will first take on Colombian Samuel Vargas on November 12. In all likelihood, Garcia will take care of business against Vargas, thus enter his bout against Thurman at 33-0. Garcia has even said that he would like to face Canelo Alvarez later in 2017. That of course seems very unlikely given the weight differential and the fact that Alvarez still has to finalize his deal with Triple G.

Although Showtime did announce that they have the exclusive networking rights, a fight location has yet to been agreed upon.

Other than Thurman vs. Garcia, the biggest match that fans have been waiting to see is Triple G up against Alvarez. Many feel as if Alvarez is “ducking” Triple G at all costs, but we must remember that Alvarez is currently dealing with a bad thumb injury. It would be great to watch these two high profile fights take place in 2017.
