Jesse & Joy
Mexican duo Jesse & Joy along with Colombian singer Fonseca, Brazilian crooner Djavan, and Colombian producers Julio Reyes Copello and Ricardo Lopez Lalinde lead the nominations for the 2016 Latin Grammys with 4 each! Getty

Holy shocker! The Latin Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences released today the list of the nominees for the 48 categories at the 17th Annual Latin Grammys. While artists such as Enrique Iglesias, Shakira and even Andrea Bocelli scored nods, the list of nominees looks a bit different overall: there aren’t too many mainstream names included. This year, voters seemed to have opted to honor music that wouldn’t typically get the same level of attention as new tunes from the most popular faces.

Leading the way with 4 nominations each are Mexican duo Jesse & Joy, Colombian singer Fonseca and Brazilian crooner Djavan, along with Colombian producers Julio Reyes Copello and Ricardo Lopez Lalinde. Following close are Julieta Venegas, Diego Torres and Pablo Alborán, among the 17 artists who scored three nominations. Juan Gabriel, Enrique Iglesias, Carlos Vives, Shakira, Carla Morrison and Wisin are among the nearly 50 artists who received two nominations for their music.

"Nominations day is always a proud moment for The Latin Recording Academy because it reminds us of how much growth and diversity Latin music and its global community have achieved throughout the year," said Gabriel Abaroa Jr., President/CEO of The Latin Recording Academy, in a statement. “This year's group of nominees showcases the craftsmanship of the artists in front of the microphone and behind the soundboard, a true testament to the dedication of our voting body and their commitment to recognize creative individuals on all levels.”

The 17th Annual Latin Grammy Awards will take place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on Nov. 17. Scroll down to read the full list of nominees.
