We love "Legend of Korra" and it is undoubtedly one of the most well-made animated series currently available on TV. Unfortunately, after half a season of low ratings, Nickelodeon has decided to pull the last five episodes of "Legend of Korra" off the air. "Legend of Korra" episode 8 "The Terror Within" will be the last episode to air this Friday, at 8 p.m. ET.

This is obviously unnerving for all the "Legend of Korra" fans out there, especially since a series of time swaps and poor placement to a Friday time slot severely affected the "Legend of Korra" ratings. However, it is important to understand that despite "Legend of Korra" being pulled from the TV schedule, it isn't the end of the world. "Legend of Korra" is NOT cancelled. As IGN notes, Nickelodeon is committed to a fourth season.

Shortly after news broke, "Legend of Korra" co-creator Bryan Konietzko issued this announcement on his Tumblr page: "Korra not canceled. Moving to digital. We'll talk at SDCC. Thanks for caring." For now, we'll have to wait until the "Legend of Korra" panel at San Diego Comic-Con '14 to get the scoop. We cannot be sure whether "Legend of Korra" will become available on a streaming service like Hulu or Netflix. Thankfully, SDCC begins tomorrow and the "Legend of Korra" panel is on Friday, July 25.

Although it is mildly assuring that "Legend of Korra" will continue in some form or another, diehard fans demand Nickelodeon to stop its reckless airtime scheduling and sloppy release date announcements. In fact, petitions are created to raise awareness and to ask Nickelodeon to keep the show on air.

"Creators Michael Dante DiMartino, Bryan Konieztko, and their staff put forth their maximum efforts into the animation and storyline of 'The Legend of Korra,'" said a Change.org petition by Melissa and Natali. "Nickelodeon has failed to give the show and its creators proper respect in the form of constant schedule changes, lack of a planned release date, leaking four episodes of Book 3 and failing to acknowledge the mistake, minimizing airtime, and more. Nickelodeon focuses more on its other shows and in the process fails to give 'The Legend of Korra' the proper respect and glorification it deserves. Nickelodeon needs to respect the show, the crew behind it, and its large fan base by being more competent with release dates, airtime, handling, and scheduling."

Another MoveOn.org petition created by Michael Roberts requests that "Legend of Korra" be preserved on Nickelodeon. Roberts pleaded, "The show is Nickelodeon's latest creation, and we, as fans, fear that it will end all too soon."

A petition may not have much of an affect on the outcome of Nickelodeon's decision to pull it from its schedule, but should the voice of "Legend of Korra" fans go viral, Nickelodeon will have no choice but to reconsider their strategy.
