According to reports out of Europe on Thursday, injured Mexican defender, Miguel Layún is headed to Italy. Layún himself confirmed the report in Mexico City on Thursday saying that Italian Serie A team, Cagliari has made an offer to Layún’s current team, Club America in Liga MX.

"“I know what you all know, of an offer from an Italian team, it’s an offer that excites me. I can only wait for the board's decision.” Layún told reporters.

According to Gianluca Di Marzio, a reporter for Sky Sport in Italy, the Sardinian club whose Serie A season kicks off on September 14th, has offered America 500,000 Euros ($660,000) for a one year loan for the El Tri defender with a purchase option of 3 Million Euros ($3.95 Million).

Layún is currently rehabbing a broken jaw that he suffered on August 11th in a match against Tigres. Layún was hit in the jaw by Jose Francisco Torres and immediately fell to the ground clutching his face. Remarkably, he stayed in the match and scored a goal for his team to help seal the victory. After the match was over, he was raced to the hospital where an x-ray showed that he had fractured his jaw.

The loss of Layún on the pitch has already been felt by his club as America had a scoreless draw against Chiapas last weekend. Despite the draw, America is still atop the Liga MX standings with 16 points. America already lost Raul Jimenez who was transferred to Atletico Madrid earlier this month and with star striker Oribe Peralta currently dealing with off the field issues, losing Layún to Cagliari could severely hurt the clubs chances of winning the Copa MX and Supercopa MX this season.

In addition to the impact Layún’s loss would have on Club America, Layún’s departure to Italy could also hinder his budding television career as well. Layún is currently appearing on the popular telenovela, “Mi Corazon es Tuyo” which is a Latino version of the Sound of Music.

If Layún has his way, he’ll be speaking Italian in no time, as it appears that he would favor a move back to Serie A. In Spanish, he told reporters that it is a dream of his to return to Europe and that he has a goal that he would like to accomplish. He added that he was happy playing for America and that he loved the team, but that he has some unfinished business in Italy. Layún played for Cagliari rivals, Atalanta during the 2009-2010 season. Layún immediately underwent surgery to repair his jaw and posted this picture on twitter from the hospital:
