When you’re married to someone, it’s impossible not to get attached to their parents, and although you divorce, if the relationship was good overall, you still hold them in a special place in your heart. That’s exactly what happened to Luis Fonsi, who posted a very special message following the death of his ex-wife’s Adamari López’s dad, Luis López. Mr. López died on Monday, February 9, 2015 at 6:15 p.m. at the Veterans Hospital in Puerto Rico, after suffering from a heart attack. He was 85.

Fonsi was quick to react to the news, posting a heartfelt message on Twitter. “Fighter, hard working, a proper man,” he wrote. “You never let me win in domino!!! Rest in peace Mr. Luis, and fly high…” Mr. López and Fonsi always had a good relationship even after his divorce from Adamari, with Mr. López revealing in more than one occasion that he would’ve loved for his daughter and Fonsi to get back together.

Adamari and Luis Fonsi dated for two years before getting married in 2006, in the midst of her cancer battle. However, they got divorced after three years when rumors of an alleged infidelity from Luis Fonsi surfaced. Adamari confirmed those rumors in her autobiography, but both artists have worked past that and now have moved on with their lives. Adamari is engaged to Toni Costa and expecting their first child, Alaia, and Luis Fonsi married Spanish model Agueda López, with whom he has a daughter, Mikaela.
