According to an audio from a Mexican radio show, it was reported that the unauthorized TV series of Luis Miguel has been postponed definitively due to lack of budget. The producer Pedro Torres, had scheduled to broadcast the biopic on Univision, but due to disagreements in the script and money, the series has been canceled.

After six months of arduous research, working with several writers, who were gradually resigning, Torres decided not to continue investing time, money and efforts in the project.

At the Univision Upfront 2017 event, the Spanish-language network announced the series with the intention to bring viewers an unforgettable bio-series about one of the most successful and prestigious artists in Latin American history. According to the brief teaser, the series was about the story of Luis Miguel, affectionately known as “El Sol de Mexico” (The Sun of Mexico) as an international icon and multi-platinum artist starting with his childhood, when he became a star under his father’s management and was dealing with his mother’s disappearance, to his adulthood and conflicting relationships.

The unauthorized bioseries was going to be the competition of the authorized one, that Netflix and Gato Grande are filming and will be also aired in Telemundo and carried out by Diego Boneta, with rumors that possibly Luis Miguel will act as himself in the adult stage.

In a teaser released for the Netflix and Telemundo series, Luis Miguel said that he was ready for his biopic. "For decades I have been asked to tell my story, many have created their own versions, now I have decided to tell the true story of my life," Luis Miguel said in a statement. "I am ready to revisit my past and its many aspects that have sparked so much curiosity and speculation. People will travel alongside with me through a surprising, unexpected and emotional journey that has shaped the artist and the person that I am today."

Telemundo announced they would be airing the series in 2018. The show is produced by Mark Burnett ("The Voice", "Survivor", "Shark Tank"). “Luis Miguel has become a close personal friend of mine and my wife Roma. He is a wonderful human being and a bonafide superstar whose authentic story deserves to be told. I am grateful he selected us for this production and I know that Telemundo is the perfect and biggest home for the Luis Miguel story," said Burnett.

"We are proud to partner with Gato Grande and Mark to bring Luis Miguel's official and authorized life story for the first time to U.S. Hispanic audiences," said Cesar Conde, Chairman, NBCUniversal International Group and NBCUniversal Telemundo Enterprises. "Our Telemundo teams have established themselves as the leaders in finding the best stories and developing innovative genres for the U.S. Hispanic market.
