Oscar winner Lupita Nyong’o has become a fashion icon since her very first appearance on the red carpet, and the actress continues to push boundaries and try new statements that leave us breathless every single time. For the 87th Academy Awards, Nyong’o wore a Calvin Klein Collection dress designed by Francisco Costa embellished with a grand total of 6,000 white Akoya pearls! Needless to say, the star was beaming on the red carpet but the fairy tale ending turned sour on Tuesday night, when they find out the masterpiece gown had been stolen from Nyong’o’s The London West Hollywood hotel room.

The crime was first reported by TMZ saying their law enforcement sources reported they received a call reporting the theft, which Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Officer, John Mitchell, later confirmed: ““We got a call at about 11:30 last night from someone at the London Hotel about a high value dress that was stolen from a hotel room.” The actress also added it could have happen anytime between 8am and 9pm when she was gone that Tuesday.

The police additionally mentioned to TMZ that the security footage could have caught the culprit right in the act, although Nyong’o did have a large entourage, including hair, makeup, stylists, fitters, etc., coming in and out of the room constantly, all with access keys. Hopefully the issue will resolve itself and the dress is found in one piece!
