While many in the boxing world expected Manny Pacquiao to lure Floyd Mayweather out of retirement for a highly anticipated rematch of their megafight from earlier this year, word out of the United Kingdom has Pacquiao returning to the ring against none other than his former sparring partner, Amir Khan.

Khan has been pushing for a fight with Mayweather for years, but the pound-for-pound No. 1 ranked boxer in the world has refused to fight the British southpaw. Constantly taunting Khan and hinting that he may fight him one day, only to choose the lesser known and less-skilled Andre Berto for his 49th and final fight last week in Las Vegas.

With Mayweather insisting that Berto was his final fight, Khan and his representatives have shifted their attention to Pacquiao who is currently recovering from shoulder surgery in the Philippines.

Pacquiao lost a rather boring 12-round decision to Mayweather back in May, but insisted that he was not 100 percent as he had a shoulder injury suffered in training. After the fight, Pacquiao underwent surgery to repair the damaged shoulder and announced that he would like a rematch with Mayweather via Twitter, one without "Injury and with fair play. No Favoritism."

Meanwhile, Khan believes he's ready for the big stage and would relish a primetime fight with Pacquiao. Therefore, Khan would sell the farm in order to make a fight with Pacquaio happen once he returns to the ring in 2016. Most likely, Pacquaio would like a tune-up fight to test his shoulder, but if he's interested in another good payday, he could accept a fight with Khan and fight in either April or May of next year.
