After the “Orange is the New Black” promos with Itatí Cantoral’s character Soraya Montenegro went viral, Netflix has confirmed that they were just promos for Mexico and Latin America, but the actress will not actually appear in the series. However, the streaming service giant had an event in Mexico City last week “Maratón Netlifx,” where Cantoral told reporters she does have something in the works with the network. The telenovela star said she preferred not to go into details before knowing exactly what the projects will be.

“It’s new and different programming, and now the news is that they are going to have a much bigger production in Mexico,” Cantoral said.

Director of Communications for Netflix Latin America, Kari Pérez, said that out of the three promotional videos made for “OITNB’ season four, Cantoral’s was the most popular as it has already gathered over four million views. “I feel so happy. Social media helped a lot and now we’re at 4.4 million views,” said the Mexican actress.

Cantoral also had the chance to meet actresses Dascha Polanco and Jackie Cruz, who she described as marvelous. “They knew all my work and talked to me about it. It was fantastic and they are amazing actresses; if there’s something I love about ‘Orange is the New Black’ it’s the quality of their actress,” Cantoral said.

The event took place in Guadalajara, Mexico and was the first of its kind. “It’s the first time we do a marathon and the point is to bring our programming to the consumer,” Pérez explained. “It’s a gift because it’s free, but attendants did have to register in advance because we have limited availability.”

As part of the production expansion in Mexico, Netflix is working on a series starring actress Kate del Castillo called “Ingobernable,” where the actress will play Mexico’s First Lady.
