María de los Ángeles Félix Güeraña, otherwise known as María Félix was the biggest diva of Mexican cinema who has now become a legend. The iconic actress had an imposing beauty, a commanding attitude and was very secure of her talent and what made her great. The diva was born on April 8, 1914 and died on the same day in the year 2002. Today, marks the 12th anniversary of her death and the 100th anniversary of the day she was born. The Mexican beauty was one of 11 children that wed at the tender age of 20 to Enrique Álvarez Alatorre, and had her only child, Enrique Álvarez Félix, who was also an actor. When she divorced she traveled to México City where it didn't take long for businessman Fernando Palacios to discover her and introduce her to filmmaker Miguel Zacarías who would give her the opportunity to star in "El Peñón de las Ánimas" alongside Jorge Negrete.
The famous "La Doña" nickname came after she starred in the film adaptation of the Rómulo Gallegos novel, "Doña Bárbara." Once she gained international fame she traveled to France where she became known as "The Most Beautiful Woman Of The World" and "The Mexican." Other great films she starred in include "La Mujer Sin Alma," "El Monje Blanco," "Vértigo," "La Diosa Arrodillada," "Doña Diabla," Tizoc: Amor Indio" and her last film "La Generala" in 1970. María Bonita also married Agustín Lara, Jorge Negrete and Alex Berger. One thing that characterized the diva was her candid responses to questions from the media.
