'Mean Girls' Musical: Tina Fey Confirms Iconic Cult Movie Will Have Theater Adaptation In 2017

That’s so fetch! The iconic "Mean Girls" movie now has a confirmed premiere date for "Mean Girls Musical" in 2017.

According to the "Mean Girls" Twitter account, the project will hit the stage on October 3 at the National Theatre in Washington, DC.

Tina Fey wrote the cult teen comedy movie in 2004; and has been working on the show with her husband, composer Jeff Richmond, and Broadway's lyricist Nell Benjamin.

During Tribeca Film Festival, Fey told the crowd that the pregnancy of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt star Ellie Kemper has given her the chance to focus on the new musical. "We’re working on the musical adaptation, and thanks to Ellie Kemper’s pregnancy, we have this whole summer to work on it," she said.

Mean Girls was directed by Mark Waters and starred Lindsay Lohan, Rachel McAdams, Lizzy Caplan, Lacey Chabert, Amanda Seyfried and Tina Fey.

Even though we don’t know the cast yet, the song titles includes iconic lines from the original movie, with tunes including "She Doesn't Even Go Here," "You Can't Sit With Us," and "On Wednesdays We Wear Pink."

We will love to see the plastics on stage and apparently they will love that too! The original star Lindsay Lohan revealed that she is desperate for a "Mean Girls" sequel.

In the meantime, we are going to keep practicing our "Jingle Bells" dance moves, in case we need to stand up from our chairs in the theater.
