The Menudo legacy lives on, even after it was founded in the '70s with its original members, including Johnny Lozada and Ricky Martin. Nearly 40 years later, after their first studio album was released in 1977, a new music talent search competition is hunting for the new generation of Menudo.

This is not the first attempt to bring back a new Menudo; in fact, there was a 2007 MTV reality series titled "Making Menudo" with the same intention.

But now, a new project called "Menudo -- En Busca de la Nueva Generación" is searching for five fresh talents during a 16-week competition, which will be conducted online via video submissions made through Showpitch.com. The five winners, who must be between ages 10 to 15, will be determined through direct social media fan engagement. The competition will run from July 1st to August 30th. The top 25 finalists will be flown to Miami, where they will audition live for a panel of celebrity judges. The winners will be offered a music contract with Menudo Entertainment.

The Menudo talent search comes at a time when the digital era is in its prime with millennials interacting on social media more than ever,” Showpitch founder and CEO J.P. Fatta said in a statement. The new digital concept is a collaboration between Showpitch, Menudo Entertainment and the Telemundo Station Group.
