Mexican First Lady Poses With Daughter Sofía Castro For Marie Claire, Mexico. Marie Claire

Angélica Rivera, the wife of Enrique Peña Nieto, posed for Marie Claire magazine for its July issue with her daughter Sofía Castro, with the caption 'Redefining Female Power.' The image, in black and white, shows Angélica and Sofía in powersuits. According to the site Perez Hilton, Rivera invited the magazine to do a photo shoot in the official residence of Los Pinos. In one of the images, Sofía and Angélica pose on the steps of a large window.

Worldwide, other first ladies who have posed for magazine covers include Michelle Obama and Carla Bruni on Vogue and Elle. During her role as First Lady, Angélica Rivera has kept a low profile while accompanying her husband in certain public events: such was the case of his last encounter with the then kings of Spain, Juan Carlos and Sofia. Last May, the honorary president of the DIF closed her official Facebook account after posting some congratulatory messages for Mother's Day

In February this year President Enrique Peña Nieto started his own controversy over a magazine cover: on that occasion it was Time in its international edition which portrayed the president with the words "Saving Mexico" - the cover was heavily criticized on social media. Marie Claire's Facebook page posted: "Get up close to our First Lady, Angélica Rivera and her daughter Sofía Castro in our July issue. For the first time together in special fashion edition. Like you've never seen them!"

And yes, they are both actresses, they look stunning. With echoes of Madonna and Lourdes María, it is a great cover. But the question is... why do it? Rivera quit acting long before she married Peña Nieto. And with poverty being Mexico's #1 issue and Peña Nieto's image declining, this Marie Claire move seems wrong for all reasons. Is this a slap in the face for Mexicans? What are your thoughs?
