Michael Douglas received the Emmy Award for "Outstanding Lead Actor in a TV Miniseries or Movie" for his portrayal of flamboyant pianist Liberace in the HBO film “Behind the Candelabra” last Sunday at the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles. In his acceptance speech, the 68-actor was in a jubilant, playful mood. "Thank you my academy, fellow members, thank you so much and to the great performances by all the other nominees," Douglas began, acknowledging his competitors Toby Jones, Benedict Cumberbatch and Al Pacino. "But obviously there's one nominee in particular that I have to really thank."

"This was a two-hander, and Matt, you're only as good as your other hand. So, I can't tell you…you were magnificent and the only reason I'm standing here is because of you. So you really deserve half of this. Do you want the bottom or the top? Top. I figured that." Douglas was referring to his costar, and fellow nominee Matt Damon, who took on the role of Liberace’s lover, Scott Thorson. Damon, 40, instantly blushed and giggled.

After the funny moment, Douglas went on to thank the cast and crew who made the movie possible, along with the director Steven Soderbergh, and later took on an emotional journey as he mentioned his estranged wife, Catherine Zeta-Jones. "I want to thank my wife Catherine for her support, my kids Dylan and Caris and a shout-out for my oldest son Cameron and hoping that I'll be able, they'll allow me to see him soon." Cameron was arrested for selling methamphetamine in 2009 and is now in prison—and Douglas hasn’t been permitted to visit him for two years.

News broke in August that Douglas and Zeta-Jones had separated. A few weeks later, he downplayed the report, telling the AP, “I have a crisis at home? No, I think the press has a crisis. We, we are fine. My wife and I are, are fine. We take a temporary separation, but the press, it gives you stuff to write about.” He also opened up about his marriage on the red carpet, telling Extra’s Jerry Penacoli: “Catherine and I are fine… The press tries to push it along a little faster. We’re taking a little break. We talk. I think everything will be great.” Entertainment Tonight's Nancy O'Dell also got a statement from the actor yesterday regarding his marital situation. "Everybody is fine. Nothing really more to say. We were just taking a little break. We're talking. I think everything will be fine and I'm very hopeful."

When asked if there is a chance they will reconcile, Douglas said, “Certainly.”
