Proving beauty pageants are often harder than they look, Miss Venezuela's inexplicable response to a routine question during the Miss Universe pageant has gone viral, inspiring laughter, and ridicule across the Internet.

Miss Venezuela, Sofia Esser Quintero, was considered a favorite by many to win Miss Universe 2012, but her answer to a simple question may have cost her the crown, and is mocked all over social media.

During the final question and answer section of the competition, Judge Diego Boneta asked: "If you could make a new law, what would it be?"

Quintero answered, "I think that any leys there are in Constitution or in life, are already made. I think that we should have, uh, a straight way to go in our similar, or, eh, in our lives as is this. For example, I'm a surfer, and I think that the best wave that I can take is the wave that I wait for it. So please do our only, eh, law that we can do. Thank you Vegas!"

While judges asked Quintero the question in Spanish, her biggest mistake of the night may have been answering in English.

Quintero earned zero points for the response, but still managed to win third place overall in the pageant, beating out Miss Brazil and Miss Australia. Considering that, if she'd been able to offer an intelligible reply to the judge's question she might have walked away Miss Universe.

The Internet has not been in the wake of Miss Venezuela's word-flub. Numerous users on Twitter, Facebook, Youtube, and other social media platforms have taken Quintero to task for her awkward answer.

At 21-years-old, Quintero was one of the younger contestants in the competition. She was raised on a cocoa plantation in Sucre, Venezuela, and spent much of her time in contact with nature, spending time on the beach and meeting new people. She says her career ambition in life is to become an actress where she can play challenging roles, and enjoys reading and surfing.

"I think every mistake is a step you take on the road to happiness, because they teach you what is important. I tend to look forward more than back," Quintero fittingly said before the pageant of her outlook on life.
