August 16 is National Rum Day and in its honor, here are seven rum-based cocktail recipes to enjoy any day!

1) Luna Fresada Cocktail

Ingredients:
6 Chopped mint Leaves
2 Copped Strawberries
4 oz Lemonade
2 ½ oz Pitorro Frutas Rum (strawberry flavor) - Pitorro is a distilled spirit from Puerto Rico, referred to as "moonshine rum."

Method: In the bottom of a glass, muddle chopped strawberries and mint leaves together. Stir in the lemonade and rum. Fill the glass with ice. Garnish with mint sprigs or strawberry slices as desired.

2) "Pina Colada" Cobbler

Ingredients:

1 large fresh pineapple

1/2 cup granulated sugar

1/2 cup coconut flavor rum

1/2 tsp. salt4 tbps soft butter

For the sauce:

2 cups pineapple juice

3 cups coconut cream "coco lopez"

1/4 cup cornstarch

1 cup water

For the cobbler dough:

3 cups all-purposed flour

3 cups cake flour

1 1/4 ounce baking powder

1/2 tsp. salt
9 ounces of sugar
1lb cold butter
16oz sour cream

Method:
Cut pineapple in chunks. In saute pan with high heat, melt butter and add pineapple, salt and sugar. Cook until caramelized and flambe with rum until alcohol is evaporated. Strain and set aside. In a sauce pan pour juice and coconut cream, bring to a boil and pour the mixture. Cook for 1 minute. Leave the two mixtures at room temperature and mix. Place the mixture in an oven safe container, cover with the cobbler dough and bake for 15-20 minutes at 350. Serve warm topped with coconut ice cream.

3) Macau

Ingredients:

1 ½ oz Flor de Caña 7 Year Rum

1 oz guava juice

1 oz orange juice

½ oz lemon juice

1/3 oz simple sugar

Method:

Garnish with 1 orange slice and 1 cherry with stem

4) Flor de Caña Piña Colada

Ingredients:

2.5 parts Flor de Caña 7 Rum

3 parts pineapple juice

1 part coconut cream

Method :

Combine the FDC 7, pineapple juice and coconut cream in a blender. Add cup of crushed ice and blend on high until smooth. Pour into a tall glass and garnish with a pineapple wedge.

5) Flor Old Fashioned

Ingredients:

2 parts Flor de Caña 7 Rum

1/4 part brown sugar syrup

3 or 4 dashes coffee bitters

2 large orange zests

Method:

Add all ingredients to your mixing glass. Stir with ice. Strain into a prepared Old Fashioned glass over a large ice cube. Garnish with orange peel.

6) Flor de Caña Ultimate Mojito

Ingredients:

2 parts Flor de Caña 7

1/2 part lime juice

1/3 part superfine sugar

3 leaves mint

Champagne

Method :

Muddle lime juice with sugar in a Collins glass. Add mint leaves and muddle again. Fill glass 2/3 full with crushed ice and add rum. Top off with a champagne float. Garnish with sprig of mint.

7) Flor de Caña Manhattan

Ingredients:

2 parts Flor de Caña 7 rum

1 part sweet vermouth

1/6 parts maraschino liqueur

1 dash orange bitters

Method:

Add all ingredients to mixing glass filled with ice. Stir vigorously and strain into a chilled martini glass. Garnish with a cherry.
