After weeks of anxiety caused by the release of Natti Natasha ft. Daddy Yankee's “Otra Cosa” music video, we can finally enjoy the material.
The first thing that caught our attention –besides the fact of how hot Daddy Yankee looks wearing leather jackets- is all the amazing outfits Natti Natasha rocks during the video. For that reason, we did our research and fond out the stylist she uses is Latino.
To be more specific, he is a New York-based womenswear designer from Dominican Republic called Nelson Tavarez, who has been getting great recognition because of his unique pieces.
He exclusively gave us some scoops on the creative process of Natti Natasha's “Otra Cosa” music video wardrobe.
1. Latin Times: How many outfits did you design for Natti Natasha on her recent “Otra Cosa” music video with Daddy Yankee?
Nelson Tavarez: We made 7 pieces and some accessories like body jewelry. A very extravagant black long cape with embellishments, two long skirts, 3 blouses, a beaded jacket and accessories.
2. LT: What was the inspiration for the looks you created?
NT: The inspiration for the looks was a very sensual and mysterious woman, super sexy and edgy.
3. LT: How many days did you spend working in the pieces?
NT: As an artist we have to adapt and manage our time to many difficult deadlines and changes. The initial idea was only a couple of pieces, but when Natti Natasha and her team saw what we had at the time and the way they looked, they decided to complete the project adding extra garments, making the time frame extra tight. After that, my team and I spend two consecutive days sleeping at the studio. We finally finished all 7 pieces and accessories in 3 days total.
4. LT: Did Natti Natasha give you some ideas on what she was looking for?
NT: Natti Natasha is very hands on; she gave me pointers to follow and some ideas but she gave me all her trust to openly create.
The Dominican designer also revealed a minor wardrobe malfunction during de video shooting of one of the scenes; “Some stones fell off the embellished leather jacket, so I had to run where she was standing and quickly fix it. I came out amazing!” –he explains.
Nelson Tavarez also affirms he loved every single garment he created, but his favorite one is between the heavy long cape and the jacket.
When we asked if the singer kept something he admitted she is going to conserved everything. “It was custom made for her and all the looks are now part of her 2017 upcoming tour.”-Nelson Tavarez
