Actress Emily Wickersham was roped in this summer for a three-episode arc to play Bishop, a character that would potentially replace Ziva after Cote de Pablo left the show. Since her brief stint on the show--which is slated to air next week--the actress has been promoted to a series regular, according to The Hollywood Reporter. "Emily Wickersham's Ellie Bishop is proving to perfectly complement the NCIS team," executive producer Gary Glasberg said. "Her energy and enthusiasm is contagious. Great things are planned for Bishop, and we couldn't be more thrilled to have her on board." Wickersham is most famous for playing Rhiannon, A.J.'s girlfriend in the final season of "The Sopranos."
Here are 8 things to know about the new "NCIS" character: 1. Emily Wickersham will play Eleanor "Ellie" Bishop. 2. Bishop will be a NSA analyst who the team meets after learning that the secretary of the Navy was bugged during a confidential meeting. According to spoilers, Bishop predicted the security breach two years prior to the revelation but her word was not believed. 3. Bishop will be introduced to "NCIS" on Nov. 19 in the ninth episode of Season 11 of "NCIS" titled "Gut Check." 4. The character of Bishop has been described as "bright, educated, athletic, attractive, fresh-faced, focused and somewhat socially awkward." 5. " She has a mysterious mixture of analytic brilliance, fierce determination and idealism. She's traveled extensively, but only feels comfortable at home," revealed the creative team of the show.
6. "Bishop is a NSA analyst, and she's a thinker," says executive producer Gary Glasberg to Entertainment Weekly. "She looks at the world in a very global way; she looks at everything, life, in a global way. That's a big part of the way that our group is evolving. Our agents are evolving - they're looking at terrorism in a different way, they're having to approach crimes in a different way and I think that having that view of the world is something that our people don't necessarily have much experience in." 7. Glasberg continues: "So I think she'll provide something different. I think she'll emotionally provide something different. Emily Wickersham is a terrific actress. I've now spent a bunch of time with her; I'm really excited about what she's going to bring to this and how she's going to bring the character to life. We'll have some fun with it."
8. Concerned that Tony will have a new love interest in Bishop? Don't be. Executive producer Gary Glasberg has revealed that Tony will be grieving Ziva's loss.
