Phil Jackson, former Lakers head coach, was hired as New York Knicks team president. He has proven that he is a winner so he was brought to turn this franchise into a winner once again. The Knicks finished 37-45 and missed the playoffs after having reached the playoffs last season with a 54-28 record.

Mike Woodson was fired, he had only one year left on his contract. Jackson said in a press release, “I have tremendous amount of respect for Mike Woodson and his entire staff. The coaches and players on this team had an extremely difficult 2013-14 season, and blame should not be put on one individual. But the time has come for change throughout the franchise as we start the journey to assess and build this team for next season and beyond. Everyone in this franchise owes a great deal of gratitude to what Mike and his staff have done. We wish him the best.”

Steve Kerr is known to be the top candidate for the vacant coaching spot. He won three championships with Jackson’s Chicago Bulls and is a TNT analyst. It is unknown how many candidates are being considered but Kerr is definitely the frontrunner. Woodson had a record of 109-79 as a coach including two post season appearances.

The Knicks face more challenges. Carmelo Anthony could be a free agent this summer. If he decides to leave the team, they would have a huge void to fill.
