Three American teens have been hospitalized following a seemingly harmless Ouija board game, reportedly becoming “possessed” by evil spirits conjured through the game. 22 year-old Alexandra Huerta was playing Ouija, which is essentially a spirit board. A spirit board is a flat board marked with the numbers 0–9, the words "yes," "no," "hello." The board is accompanied by a planchette, which moves across the board indicating the spirit’s intended messages. Joining Alexandra in the game was her brother, Sergio and cousin Fernando Cuevas in a home in the Mexican village of San Juan Tlacotenco. Only a few minutes into the game, Alexandra allegedly started “growling” and “trashing” around the home in a “trance like” state. In addition to her haunting condition, both her brother and cousin started showing signs of spirit possession, mainly moments of complete blindness, deafness and the witnessing of hallucinations.

Alexandra’s parents revealed that after discovering their daughter’s state, they called paramedics to the home and all three teens were rushed to the hospital. The paramedics were only called after a local Catholic priest refused to perform an exorcism on them, due to the fact that they were not regular churchgoers. Paramedic immediately restrained Alexandra upon arriving to the home to prevent her from injuring herself or any of the medical staff, the three “possessed” teens were then treated painkillers, anti-stress medication and eye drops.

According to the Daily Mail, the administered treatment worked to calm the patients and supposedly rid them of their evil spirit possession. Victor Demesa, 46, who serves as the Director of public safety in the nearby town of Tepoztlan, revealed, “the medical rescue of these three young people was very complicated.” Demesa also commented on the condition of the possessed teens stating, “they had involuntary movements and it was difficult to transfer them to the nearest hospital because they were so erratic. It appeared as if they were in a trance-like state, apparently after playing with the Ouija board. They spoke of feeling numbness, double vision, blindness, deafness, hallucinations, muscle spasm and difficulty swallowing.”
