Another award show that had its inaugural gala today was the People Magazine Awards 2014! The ceremony took place in Beverly Hills where musical guests included 5 Seconds Of Summer, Maroon 5, Gwen Stefani and Pharrell Williams. Hosted by Nick Cannon, the event honored the best in pop culture in diverse categories. Jennifer Lopez took the accolade for Triple Threat and was presented the award by her "Boy Next Door" co-star Ryan Guzman. "She is the mother of two amazing children. I'm struck by her professionalism," he said. "She is a true triple threat." When the "Booty" hitmaker took the stage she said: "Whether its acting, singing or producing, I feel blessed. I love to entertain. We have to cherish every moment. I feel like it's just the beginning."
As Male Performance Of The Year, Michael Keaton took home the award. The actor is the lead in the Alejandro González Iñárritu film, "Birdman." Jeff Bridges presented the award to the actor saying, "He flies to great new heights and hits every note perfectly." While accepting the award, Keaton said, "I am extremely appreciative. I can't believe my fans hung in there this long and I am grateful to anyone who has ever given me a helping hand. I'm going to buy Jeff [Bridges] a shot of tequila right now and go home and kiss my dogs."
Another proud Latino-moment was when "Devious Maids" star Roselyn Sánchez took the stage to present a special award. The actress presented the special accolade Hero Of The Year to Nora Sandigo. Nora has made an impact on families across the country and is the founder and executive director of American Fraternity Inc. While accepting the award she said, "I humbly ask each and every one of you to uplift the hearts of those around you who have lost hope and to help bring back their laughter and the innocence of childhood."
