Is there a new Pikachu related Pokemon game in the works? Bulbapedia/Screenshot

"Pokemon X and Y" hasn't even released and rumors of a new Pokemon game have already started up. Japanese broadcaster NHK may be dropping some news soon of a possible new Pokemon game featuring everyone's yellow furry Pokemon, Pikachu! Multiple reports from Joystiq, Kotaku and Gamatsu all report NHK has an upcoming show profiling The Pokemon Company CEO Tsunekazu Ishihara. But more importantly is the broadcaster's description, which notes a "never before seen" game that's been in development since the summer.

At their own Japanese expo in August, the Pokemon Company put together a retrospective video (which you can view below) that seemed to tease a Wii U fighting game. And further evidence comes from an interview done last month with Nintendo Life where "Pokemon X and Y" director Junichi Masuda said the video was "showing the history of Pokemon games as well as the future. It was kind of a concept about what the future of Pokemon may look like."

NHK's description of the Pokemon boss mentions the development of an all new Pikachu eccentric Pokemon game, but also mentions a downfall if the game fails. "There is concern, however, that if it's bad the long loved character would lose popularity in the blink of an eye."

Would you think any less of Pikachu if a Pikachu-related Pokemon game failed to impress?

The latest Pokemon game, "Pokemon X" and "Pokemon Y," launches worldwide for the Nintendo 3DS and Nintendo 2DS, which launches the same day on October 12.
