We all know that when it comes to sports, many people take their teams very seriously. From going all out at games, hosting game parties and even getting into scuffles with other fans, sports fans are relentless. Now a fan has taken a fatal route becasue of his sports team devotion.

According to DailyMail, Pontrey O'Neal Jones, a Texas man stabbed his stepmother to death on Sunday because he thought she was "disrespecting his father and gloating" about the Dallas Cowboys' win. Magdalena Ruiz, a mother of three, was stabbed by Jones in her Texas home for celebrating her team's win over Tampa Bay.

The site reports that she had been watching the game on TV with her husband on Sunday, according to court documents reviewed by Austin television station KEYE. Detectives say her stepson, 20, believed she was 'disrespecting his father and gloating about how the Cowboys won the game.'

Latina reports that Jones, who is speculated to suffer from bipolar disorder was staying at his father and stepmom's house after being homeless, planned the fatal attack. The man told authorities that he originally sought to kill his younger sister, though it's not clear why, but later "developed a plan" against Ruiz.

Jones retrieved a knife, walked behind the couch, lunged at his stepmother and stabbed her several times. The woman's husband reportedly stepped in to stop the attack and Jones fled. Ruiz was pronounced dead at the South Austin Medical Center after first aid attempts at the house failed.

The suspect was later found about 10 minutes later, lying naked in the grass on South Congress Avenue, where he was taken into custody by police.

Jones is currently being held on a $500,000 bond and charged with murder.

It really is just a game. It should never be that serious that someone has to lose their life over a sporting event.

We would like to send our deepest condolences to the family of Magdalena Ruiz.
