After visiting Chile, Pope Francis traveled to Peru, where, to his surprise, a group of women was waiting for him to protest. The group organized the uproar in front of the Cathedral of Lima, where they undressed, an action that was quickly and violently interrupted by the police, to later evict them as can be seen in a video that was shared by La Resistencia on Facebook.

The images show them naked from the torso and wearing masks with a message to Pope Francis that reads: "The Pope defends the pedophiles." The 10 women stopped near a platform in the Plaza de Armas. After the video became public on Facebook, the Municipality of Lima indicated that the demonstrators had "lack of morals and good manners," being placed at the disposal of the Police, according to El Comercio.

Pope Francis arrived in Peru on Thursday, January 18, kicking off the second leg of his 22nd apostolic visit abroad. During his trip is scheduled, amongst other things, to address political leaders, celebrate Holy Mass, meet with priests and religious and pay tribute to the nation’s beloved Vergin of La Puerta, as presented by the Vatican News.

A highlight of Francis' visit will most certainly be his meeting on Friday with the indigenous peoples of Peru’s Amazon rainforest during which he is expected to issue a message of warning and of hope to the world. The 81-year-old Argentine pontiff arrived at Madre de Dios Coliseum, to lead a meeting with Amazonian indigenous peoples from Peru, Brazil, and Bolivia.

The Vicar Apostolic Bishop of Puerto Maldonado David Martinez greeted Pope Francis and highlighted that representatives of the aboriginal peoples of the rainforest "reflect the millenary wealth of their cultures, their struggles, and their hope in harmony with nature," he said. Later a group of Ashaninka students dedicated a dance routine to Pope Francis.

The Pope will be in Peru from 18 to 21. Been this according to the Vatican the third papal journey to the nation after Saint Pope John Paul II visited Peru twice, in 1985 and 1988.
