After almost one year of losing a 16-year battle to cancer, Joan Sebastian's legacy will continue on the small screen in a bio series called "Por Siempre Joan Sebastian." In 2015 it was announced that Univision will produce a mini docu-series based on the remarkable life of the late Mexican singer and has since been teasing fans with promo videos and photos.

The Spanish-language network has now revealed the official premiere date of what is considered the "miniseries of the summer," announcing it to be June 27.

The biographical series will star Sebastian's own son, Jose Manuel Figueroa, as the lead role, where he transforms into his father. For Figueroa, the opportunity to portray his beloved late father is the "role of a lifetime," according to Billboard.

"Por Siempre Joan Sebastian," produced by Carla Estrada (Lazos De Amor, El Privilegio De Amar), will tell the story of the "Secreto de Amor" singer's humble beginnings to becoming the irreplaceable and legendary Rey del Jaripeo in the music industry.

Estrada has also cast Livia Brito as Sebastian's ex-wife Maribel Guardia and Julián Figueroa -- Guardia and Sebastian's son -- as his father in his adolescent years.

"We are going to continue with the story of Joan Sebastian," Julián Figueroa recently expressed to the cast and crew. "We are good people, we fight to portray a good image, for the great education that our father gave us," he added, stating that it was an honor working with his older brother.

On July 13, 2015, Sebastian lost his battle with cancer at age 64. The multi-Grammy award winner battled with the disease for 16 years after being diagnosed with bone cancer in 1999. He passed away at 7:15p.m. (local time) in his ranch located in Juliantla, Guerrero, Mexico.

With a successful trajectory that began in the late '70s, the singer and songwriter leaves behind an incomparable legacy via his music.
