Season 5 of “Pretty Little Liars” is celebrating the series first ever Christmas episode and while the December premiere date is still a ways off, fans can get a taste of the holiday treat with a spoiler roundup! The first thing fans should know about the Christmas special is that it will replace the annual Halloween episode, which has become a fan favorite.

However, due to the traditional episode being replaced, ABC Family announced that "PLL" will get its own special during their “13 Nights of Halloween” event. The network stated that Halloween event will be a “Fan Appreciation Special,” joining together the cast and the crew to divulge some of the secrets of the mystery series. The “Pretty Little Liars” Fan Appreciation Special will give fans the chance to have some of their several questions answered, fans can enter their questions simply by either posting their questions on the series official Facebook page or by tweeting their questions with the hashtag #PLLHalloween.

So with “Pretty Little Liars” fans getting their cake and eating in terms of the holiday specials, what can fans expect from the Christmas episode. Well, expect for this episode to be one for the books with show runner Marlene King both writing and directing the installment. Way back in April, when word of the new episode had just broke, Marlene took to her Twitter and informed fans, tweeting, “I am extremely excited to write the PLL Christmas episode. And I'm directing that one too! @PLLlittletheory.”

In addition to knowing who is writing and directing the episode, we also know its title. The episode is entitled “How The ‘A’ Stole Christmas,” and while clearly drawing from Dr. Seuss’ classic Christmas tale “How The Grinch Stole Christmas,” fans are left divided on what will take place during this festive episode.

Most fans believe that due to “A’s” tactics, the Liars won’t be in a necessarily yuletide mood, but maybe, “A” will have a similar transformation to that of the Grinch. And all those in Rosewood will say that the “A’s” small heart grew three sizes that day. Even if “A” is up to no good, it seems like Ezra will be ready to celebrate the holidays. After starting the season off with a long and perilous sty in the hospital, all the while dodging the Rosewood PD, Ezra is seriously ready to enjoy Christmas and maybe even make a grand romantic gesture for Aria. According to Marlene, Ezra and another one of the “PLL’s bed buddies may be wearing Santa boxers.”

Speaking of holiday attire, Hanna won’t be wearing any! Marlene King recently uploaded a photo of actress Ashley Benson on set while filming the Christmas episode. And it seems like even though it’s the holidays, Hanna isn’t ditching her punk threads, in the photo Hanna is rocking a black “rock n’ roll” T-shirt, paired with a studded green sweater.

And while Hanna is sticking to her “edge,” other characters will be changing their ways. A recent tweet from Marlene even introduced a new nickname for a character fans already known. The tweet from Marlene reads, “Hark the herald angels sing. Glory to the newborn queen. #MajorPllHolidayClue.” The lyrics are directly from the Christmas song “Hark the Herald Angels Sing” indicating that whoever the “newborn queen” is, she will be rising from the small town of Rosewood. My guess is that, Mona is the “newborn queen” and even Marlene said so.

Way back when in Season 4B, Marlene sent out another tweet to a fan. A fan of ABC Family’s hit series probed Marlene about the “A team” on Twitter, asking, “In my opinion, Mona was the best -- A team. And you?” While we happen to agree with this fans assessment, we could have never predicted what Marlene responded with. The show runner responded, “Mona is the queen. But wait for it.” With this piece of evidence it’s safe to say that it will be Mona who rises and begins to rein over Rosewood in the Christmas episode.
