Season 2 of “Reign” has already experienced its fair share of excitement, some good, some devastating. Fans watched as the people of France suffered from the deadly effects of the Black Plague, then soldiered through the subsequent famine that followed. However with new grain and the kingdom feed, the castle celebrated the grandiose coronation of the new King and Queen of France, and now finally in episode 4 fans will bear witness to the series first ever royal christening. But all is not as it seems, fans first clue that something is sure to go amiss is the episode title, “The Lamb and The Slaughter.” The episode synopsis reveals “a grand christening is held for Francis and Lola's son,” and there is apparently more baby news on the way but this time for the happily married couple. The synopsis also states that in the midst of Francis claiming his illegitimate son, Mary “breaks the news to Francis that she's pregnant” although the happiness is fleeting because the young Queen miscarries quickly after. All of this growing tension is set to dispel into the rest of the unfolding action in the episode, when Mary encounters a new and shocking enemy—Lola.

After having a quick but fruitful relationship with Francis, Mary and Lola’s relationship has been notably strained, but the Queen has attempted to put both her emotional hurt and anger aside for the sake of not only her marriage, but her friendship to Lola, and the life of her son. All of this is set to change following a tragedy at the castle, after turning to Mary for help, yet again; Lola is less than pleased with her Queen’s decision leaving the two former friends at odds. In an all-new sneak peek video from tonight’s episode 4 “The Lamb and The Slaughter” Lola and Mary engage in a vicious and passionate argument. With Francis’ decision to claim his child, Lola views that her life is now determined for her and begins once again to complain to her friend and Queen Mary about this predicament. Most likely less sympathetic after the loss of her own pregnancy, Mary finally snaps, stating, “Has it ever occurred to you that your cage is of your own making?” Lola questions her friend’s compassion and asserts that Mary’s own happiness with Francis blinds her. Not amused by her subjects ridiculing comments Mary continues, “That the bars formed the minute you decided to sleep with the man that I love, knowing that I loved him still?” After Mary finally stated this, Lola quickly responds, “There it is—the anger I knew you bore me.” The conversation, turned argument, quickly disintegrates from there so much so that Mary insists on Lola treating her as the Queen that she is.
