Talented actor, Román Cámara recently landed in Miami after graduating from acting school at Televisa’s CEA and working with them in shows like "La Rosa de Guadalupe" and "Como Dice el Dicho". He recently worked with Telemundo in “Virgen Morena” and starred in the hit MTV series “Niñas Mal 2”. Román is no stranger to the acting world since he belongs to dynasty of renounced actors such as his grandfather, Víctor Cámara, and his great-grandfather, the famous Carlos Cámara. He’s also giving back with PETA Latino, alongside personalities like Kate del Castillo, Roselyn Sanchez and Marco Antonio Regil. We had the chance to talk to Román about his future, his family and his career dreams.

Latin Times: Where did you grow up?

Román Cámara: I was born in Venezuela and then moved to Mexico when I was 17 years old to start school at CEA where I finished in five years.

LT: And what was that experience like?

RC: It was actually really tough. I got there without knowing a thing about acting and worked really hard. I was in class from 8 am to 8pm so you had no choice but learn. But they were also great years where I grew up so much; I got to know myself, I learned about dance, theatre, literature, movement, and so many things that were crucial to my formation.

LT: What did your parents say when you told them you wanted to be an actor?

RC: They’ve always been super supportive. I’ve been in the business since I was very little. My mother was an actress, and my grandfather is currently an actor, my great-grandfather was an actor, so we always kind of knew where I was going.

LT: What’s your biggest aspiration as an actor, the movies, Broadway, TV?

RC: My final goal is definitely the movies, but I want to conquer Latin America first and if I get the chance, then make the cross over to the US. I lived in Florida for five years before moving to Mexico, so I feel at home here too.

LT: Which actors have you dreamt about working with?

RC: Wow! That’s a hard one. From the Hispanic world I’d say Kate del Castillo, Demián Bichir, Benicio del Toro and Guillermo del Toro the director. Currently my favorite actor is hands down Leonardo DiCaprio, but I’d love to work with Natalie Portman and probably Bradley Cooper if I got the chance.

LT: If you weren’t an actor, what would you be?

RC: I think I’d be a businessman. I really like math and economy classes and I think I’d be good at something financial. I also love sports. A little bit of everything actually. I guess that’s why I chose to be an actor, because it lets you be so many different people.

LT: Tell us about your passion for animals and your campaign with PETA Latino.

RC: Well I’ve always wanted to work towards a cause; to give back, so when I heard all of the wonderful work PETA does, I knew I had to work with them, and luckily it’s happening! We’re just getting started with a campaign to promote cat and dog adoption, and we’re also looking to create conscience on the difference people can make by neutering their pets. There are over 7 million dogs and cats in shelters in the US. It’s very important and a cause very dear to my heart.

LT: What projects are you working on now and what’s next for you, Román?

RC: I recently finished a series for MTV called “Niñas Mal 2” which did great in Latin America and is now going to be airing in the US, so I’m excited to see how it does here. My mom is also a producer, so we’re trying to bring a play to the US where I would have the opportunity to act alongside my grandfather, which would be amazing. I just moved to the States a few months ago, so I’m still adjusting and waiting for more exciting projects to come my way.
