The name Profesor Jirafales has become a trending topic as many people on the Internet celebrate the life and legacy of Rubén Aguirre, who portrayed the beloved character and childhood icon on TV.

Many people are torn and mourning the sudden passing of Aguirre, who died Friday morning at age 82 from complications with pneumonia as confirmed by his daughter to CNN En Español. His friend and actor Edgar Vivar, who portrayed "Señor Barriga" in the popular family show "El Chavo del Ocho" starring Roberto Gómez Bolaños as "El Chavo," expressed his feelings on social media. “My favorite professor rests in peace now,” Vivar wrote on Twitter. "Today my good friend Rubén Aguirre left this earth. I will miss you very much.”

The Mexican actor was hospitalized in May, but was released on June 7 to rest at home in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, where he passed away Friday.

Although Aguirre portrayed many characters in the Mexican series "Chespirito," such as Lucas Tañeda and Sargento Refugio Pazguato, he was mainly known for portraying Profesor Jirafales, the teacher of all the kids in el vecindario in "El Chavo del Ocho" and Don Florinda's love interest.
