Scandal Season 5
"Scandal" season 6 news, rumors and spoilers. ABC

ABC's political drama "Scandal" will return for a sixth season in 2017. While we still have some time before we get any new episodes, the actors from the series are giving us some juicy details as to what we should expect.

In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, actor Scott Foley, who plays Jake Ballard, talked the relationship between his character and Kerry Washington's Olivia Pope.

"I'm going to be very unpopular in saying this: I think Olivia has chosen Jake," Foley told EW. "There is no question in my mind that she’s chosen Jake."

Foley pointed out that Liv has made it clear throughout the season that Jake is the one she wants to be with. He pointed out the fact that Olivia made a plan with his character to run away together on his wedding day but was stopped by her father, Rowan (Joe Morton).

"They concocted this plan, they were going to be together, he was going to leave [his fiancée] at the altar until Rowan threatened Olivia with Jake’s life," he explained. "She had to have that really heartbreaking speech to him where she said, ‘I don’t love you, I never loved you, I love Fitz.’ It was very apparent to me that she wanted to be with Jake and she couldn’t."

The season played out with more complications and the pair were not able to get together. While their feelings are apparent, Liv and Jake currently have no choice but to put their relationship on hold. Foley further spoke about the characters relationship to Variety, revealing that at this point it seems to be "all business."

"Jake would always love to run away with Olivia and get out and just live their lives," Foley said. "The last scene that we saw with them when Olivia tells Jake to put on his tie and get the f**k out there, I think it is sort of emblematic in where they are — it seems to be all business right now."

Meanwhile, "Scandal" will continue to air on Thursday nights in the 9 p.m. ET timeslot like previous seasons, but will premiere during midseason for Season 6.

After series star Washington announced her second pregnancy, TV Line reported that ABC is considering moving the show's premiere to midseason. In addition, the episode order for the sixth season was reduced from 22 to 16. And then during ABC's annual upfront presentation back in May, it was officially announced that the political drama will premiere during midseason, following a fall run of the new series "Notorious."
