Selena Gomez wants to transition from a child star to just a “star” and her first order of business was to fire her parents, who happened to be her managers. Ever since Gomez starred in Disney’s “Wizards of Waverly Place,” her mom Mandy Teefey and her stepdad Brian Teefey have been in charge of overseeing her career and guiding her through important decisions. Until now.

Some speculate that Selena’s on-again, off-again relationship with Justin Bieber may have had something to do with her decision to fire her parents, since the Teefey’s are “vehemently opposed” to her romance with Justin, but “they don’t have any control over her.” She’s even pulling the “Who makes more money around here?” card according to reports by Radar Online.

However, it’s been said that family friction is not to be blamed for the professional break-up, and while Selena’s parents are not happy with her decision, they continue to support her and the family remains close. TMZ reported that according to a source, Selena feels that she’s “outgrown” her parents and is famous enough to have a “professional manager.”

E! Online reported that Gomez is currently looking at her managing options and Bradford Cobb, who is Katy Perry’s manager, is being considered as possible replacement for her parents. However, we have a slight hunch that the job will eventually go to Scooter Braun, Bieber's manager.
