Shakira Says Goodbye To Colombian Author

Gabriel García Márquez has left this world that cherished his literary pieces. Celebrities from around the globe have expressed their condolences following his loss with Shakira sharing a photo she had with the Colombian author. "The Voice" coach posted a message on her website after news of his death broke. "Dear Gabo, you once said that life isn't what one lived, but the life one remembers and how he remembers it to retell it," she wrote. "Your life, dear Gabo, will be remembered by all of us as a unique and singular gift, and as the most original story of all. It's difficult to say goodbye to you, with all that you've given us! You will always be in my heart and in those of all who loved and admired you."

Fellow countryman Juanes also remembered "Gabo" and expressed his sentiment on Twitter, "One of the biggest of them all leaves but an immortal legend stays... thank you Gabriel García Márquez." Gabriel García Márquez passed away at the age of 87. The Colombian novelist was the recipient of the 1982 Nobel Prize in Literature. Márquez had been admitted into the hospital for dehydration and a respiratory and urinary infection. He was able to return home after eight days, but his health was "still very fragile." During his stay at the Mexico City hospital he read all the coverage he was getting and surprised reporters waiting outisde with a message he sent via one of his assistants that said, "Are you crazy? What are you doing out there? Go work and do something productive."

García Márquez is survived by his wife Mercedes Barcha and sons Rodrigo and Gonzalo. "Gabo" as he was affectionately known wrote classics like "One Hundred Years Of Solitude," "Autumn Of The Patriarch" and "Love In The Time Of Cholera." His works were critically acclaimed thanks to a literary style he popularized and labeled as "magic realism" where he mixed magical elements into ordinary and realistic scenarios. His last novela was published in 2004 and titled "Memories Of My Melancholy Whores." The literary world will not be the same and celebrities have taken to social media to expresse their condolences.
