Skype has announced that it will be releasing a new mobile competitor for Vine. The company revealed its very own service for sending short video messages to friends dubbed Skype Qik. With this new app Skype gives you all the mobile recording features from Vine and adds in a nice and easy to use instant messenger.

The news comes from Skype's blog which reads, "Imagine if you could reinvent the Skype experience, taking into account how messaging, selfies, and app culture have changed the way we communicate."

While Skype video calls are more so to reconnect with people far away, this Qik app is suppose to be a lighter way to stay connected in between those calls. Users can utilize Qik if you're bored at work, want to have dinner with friends or just want to send shamless selfie videos. Check out these moments below in the Skype Qik video:
