Seems like the Colombian drug lord's life is the hot topic of the moment, and following the original Netflix series “Narcos” success, looks like we’ll be seeing much more of Pablo Escobar’s infamous story, as Sony Pictures is producing an original drama titled “Bloque de Búsqueda” (“Search Block”), about the group that brought him down. Production of the 70-episode series has begun in Colombia and Sony TV is set to distribute it to the U.S., Latin America and the rest of the world. The cast includes Rafael Novoa, Bryan Moreno, Laura Londoño, Carolina Gómez, Sebastián Martinez and Verónica Orozco.

The story follows the two men who lead the Search Block that tracked down the cocaine kingpin. Colonel Hernán Martín (played by Novoa) and Captain Antonio Gavilán (played by Martinez) knew the only way to catch a criminal was to act like one, so they put their lives and their families at risk to get close to cartels and their enemies. SVP and Managing Director, Production, Latin America and U.S. Hispanic for Sony Pictures Television, Angélica Guerra says there’s still great appetite for “smart scripted programming about real people and events” about Escobar’s life. “While many are familiar with Pablo Escobar, ‘Bloque De Búsqueda’ explores the less-familiar story of the heroes who ultimately captured him and the tremendous impact that it had on their families,” she explained.

SVP International Distribution at Sony TV, Alexander Marin, says Sony is “continuing to raise the bar on local content with powerful and relevant storytelling.” “The fall of the world’s most notorious drug dealer continues to captivate people to this day, so we anticipate that ‘Bloque De Búsqueda’ will have very broad appeal,” he insisted.
