Spa 24 2014
The 2014 Spa 24 is Saturday, July 26. Don't miss it! total24hours.com

The Spa 24 Hours race at Belgium's Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps begins Saturday, July 26, 4:30 p.m. GMT, or 11:30 a.m. EDT. A total of 61 cars will be competing at the Spa 24, one of the most historic endurance races in the world, second only to the iconic Le Mans 24.

The competition is always fierce at Spa-Francochamps. Friday's qualifying session ended with Dirk Werner of the #77 BMW Sports Trophy Team Marc VDS BMW out on top with a blistering 2:19.089. That said, the rest of the pack was a mere sniff away as the Top 12 of the grid all clocked below 2:20.

Second place on the grid is Christopher Mies in the #3 Belgian Audi Club Team WRT Audi. Mies was only 0.041 slower than Werner. Next, Kevin Estre in the #99 ART Grand Prix McLaren 0.159 came in third. Remarkably, Pro-Am class driver Alessandro Pier Guidi will start fourth overall tomorrow. Ultimately, deteriorating weather conditions have caused four Pro Cup cars to lose Friday's Superpole, including the #63 Black Falcon Mercedes, the #75 ISR Audi, the #44 Oman Racing Team Aston Martin, and the #8 M-Sport Bentley (39th).

“I am happy for the team that I was able to set this provisional pole," said Dirk Werner. "We were able to determine a good set-up, at least over a single lap. Still, this is only provisional, there is still the Superpole left. Getting the pole will not change a lot for the race itself, but it is always a good thing if you can start from the front and avoid possible mayhem during the opening laps.”
