Mexico was sandwiched between two tropical storm systems along its eastern and western coasts on Wednesday. While Weather.com reports that Pacific Tropical Storm Norbert along the western coast of Mexico is expected to evolve into a hurricane very soon, the nation has already experienced Tropical Storm Dolly after the system made landfall overnight.

Eastern Mexico's Tampico and Cabo Rojo areas suffered extremely heavy rainfall during the early morning hours of Sept. 3. Winds traveling along the eastern slopes of the Sierra Madre Oriental also amplified Trapical Storm Dolly's strength. Numerous areas suffered flash flooding while mountainous areas experienced dangerous mudslides. School classes were cancelled on Wednesday while authorities set up temporary shelters for families.

According to the U.S. Hurricane Center, Tropical Storm Dolly made landfall just 30 miles south of Tampico early Wednesday morning. Satellite data revealed the storm carried maximum sustained winds near 45 mph (75 kph). The system's path on Wednesday was heading west at 8 mph. The storm measures 140 miles wide.

The city of Veracruz also suffered flooding. Two streets had also collapsed during the heavy rain, causing extensive damage to cars and structures.

According to the latest reports, Dolly is expected to weaken and fade away very soon. Forecasts report remnants of Dolly will deliver heavy rain and minor flooding along the southern Texas coast today.

As for Tropical Storm Norbert, the system is expected to evolve into a hurricane as it moves towards the southern tip of the Baja Peninsula. According to the U.S. Hurricane Center, Norbert is projected to reach southern California by Friday. Just like Dolly, forecasters warn that Tropical Storm Dolly will cause flash flooding and mudslides to coastal areas.
