Pope Francis has always been very condescending with the poor and the prisoners, for him we all are equal and children of the same creator. As usual, his holiness invited a group of inmates to have lunch with him, and spend quality time praying and enjoying typical dishes of the region he is visiting.

Two Italian prisoners, who were part of a score of detained guests, had other plans and took advantage of the event to escape. According to the Italian newspaper Il Resto del Carlino, the incident occurred in Bologna, north of Italy, and the two detainees were in a regime of open imprisonment, in a special center of reintegration near Modena, integrated by socially dangerous inmates and drug addicts.

The press reported that before the lasagna was served, volunteers realized that two of the inmates had left voluntarily, and immediately alerted police. The local police is asking the public to cooperate in finding the two fugitives.

The pontiff is the 266th Pope of the Roman Catholic Church. Born Jorge Mario Bergoglio in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Pope Francis is the first Jesuit pope, the first from the Americas, the first from the Southern Hemisphere, the first to have a papal name without a number title since Lando in 913 AD, and the first Pope from outside Europe since the Syrian Gregory III, who reigned in the 8th century.

He became Pope after the resignation of Pope Benedict XVI on February 28, 2013. A papal conclave elected Bergoglio as his successor on March 13. He chose Francis as his papal name in honor of Saint Francis of Assisi.
