The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) will begin immigration raids targeting hundreds of undocumented families who have flocked to the United States since the beginning of last year.

According to The Washington Post, the nationwide campaign will be carried out by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents and is expected to take place early 2016 in January. This will be the first mass deportation of its kind that will deport thousands of families who have crossed the U.S. border from Central America since last year. The raid will also target undocumented minors.

The Washington Post reports that "the ICE operation would target only adults and children who have already been ordered removed from the United States by an immigration judge" and notes that "the adults and children would be found and immediately deported." Hundreds of undocumented immigrants, and possibly more, are expected to be deported in 2016.

The plan is ongoing and has yet to receive final approval by DHS.
