It was a crowning day of achievement for women in the sport of soccer on Sunday when EA Sports announced that United States Women's National Team star Alex Morgan would grace the cover of their game FIFA 16 alongside Lionel Messi.

Morgan becomes the first woman in history to be featured on the cover of the popular soccer video game and will allow users to play as Morgan and many other prominent female players.

"It's an incredible honor to be one of the first women to be highlighted on the cover of EA Sports FIFA 2016," Morgan said in a press release. "I know that many people around the world enjoy this game and now I am very excited to be the first woman on the cover to represent women's soccer. Being at the top is something surreal."

Morgan will be on the cover of all copies of the game sold in the United States, and Canadian soccer star, Christine Sinclair, the captain of the Canadian team that reached the quarterfinals of the 2015 World Cup will be on the cover in all versions sold in Canada.

In Australia, stand out Stephanie Catley, will don the cover for all versions of the game sold in the land down under.

For the first time in the history of the game, players will be able to play as many women's national rosters. The 2016 edition of the popular game includes 16 women's teams including: USA, Germany, France, Sweden, England, Brazil, Canada, Australia, Spain, China, Italy and Mexico. Users will be able to play as these teams in tournaments or friendly matches.
