"The Walking Dead" returns for Season 4 Episode 3 on Sunday, Oct. 27 on AMC at 9 p.m. ET/PT. You can get a live stream from amc.com, iTunes, Amazon, and Netflix, or watch the episodes on demand the next day through your local cable providor if you miss the episode on your television. AMC teases of the premiere episode, "A group leaves the prison to search for supplies; the remaining members of the group deal with recent losses." The secret new threat that the survivors are facing is nothing more than the common flu, but this threat proves to be incredibly fatal. Patrick was the first to die from the flu and then became the threat after he turned into a zombie. How many more lives will the flu claim? That's up in the air now, but it's safe to say that many more favorite characters will be passing away from the virus. "Is it safe to say this flu is impacting other survivors beyond the prison and they're turning as well?" said showrunner Scott Gimple to The Hollywood Reporter, "It is safe to say Patrick died of whatever that was. The walker that was at the fence that we saw was rather fresh; he's not very rotted. I would intuit that because it's a fresh zombie that the person who died recently was in the same method Patrick died." The last episode revealed that there is someone in the prison that is killing those who are potentially infected, as Karen was killed. The prison is split now that some people are exposed to influenza and some are not, including the Council. The leadership dynamic within the prison will inevitably be changing.
As for Tyreese and how he will cope with Karen's death, Gimple reveals: "That is a terrific question. We don't know Tyreese's full story, but the way he carries himself, he hasn't lost much the same way that some other people have since the turn. He hasn't lost his wife -- I'm not saying he had one -- but compared to Rick, he hasn't had these crushing losses. This is a very defining moment for him; it's his first big loss. Everybody has lost something, and everybody has lost this world, but for Tyreese, this is the first big loss he's had. It will change him, and it's going to deeply affect him. We're going to see those effects right at the start of the next episode." RELATED: 'The Walking Dead' Season 4 Spoilers Roundup: See 23 Juicy Details About The New Season! [VIDEO]
Additionally, the show has seen a new member of the prison with the introduction of Bob. In the comics, the character is ambiguous, but Gimple tells The Hollywood Reporter that he's not following the comics for this character. Does this mean he's good or bad? "I'm coming to the character fresh, without the knowledge of Bob in the comic. I'm trying to create a different and fresh character who is dealing with the same issues the comic book character is," said Gimple. "Should we trust anyone in this world? It's hard to trust anybody. You never know where people are coming from. Rick [Andrew Lincoln] is always challenged with, "Should I let people in or not?" Daryl [Norman Reedus] actually is the one who brought this guy in. Early on, you see he's looking for his shot when he comes out and asks for a chance to "earn my keep around here" and to prove himself. No one really knows him, which is hard in this world. You're always skeptical about people because you don't really know people's backgrounds, and you can't look them up."
